Common challenges we faced as parents

Today's world that our kids are growing in is so much more competitive, compared to the time when most of us used to grow up in. Among the common problems we see today:

1. Our children gets stressed out at school - There are many more subjects taught to them today compared to our time. If it was tough back during our time, it is even tougher today!

2. Our children are not enthusiastic about learning - This is mostly because they are finding it hard to understand what they are learning. When they give up trying, they give up being interested in learning.

3. Poor memory and concentration - The method of teaching in school today is getting more and more left brain focused. There are more things to learn and memorize.

4. Poor social skills and lack of confidence - Remember during our childhood days, there were no video games yet. In the evenings we would go out and play with our neighbours and friends. Today's children 'interacts' with their video games, these are virtual interactions, and they become uncomfortable when interacting with actual people.

5. Confused and not knowing where their inborn talent lies - This happens when parents themselves do not understand what would be good for their child. So what happens next is that the child is sent to every single type of class and co-curicullum activity to learn via the 'trial and error' method. While some may be able to afford this, how many parents out there have the limited time and money to try on everything? Wouldn't a better approach be to understand what the child would be good at and focus on developing their strength?

While some of these problems are self inflicted, it is also caused by the rigid education system and high social expectation. The ultimate aim of BCL is to mould a child with positive mind to conquer fear and to make learning fun. The ideal learning environment should not be stressful but stimulating, exciting and far away from the stress above.

The common misconception about children's upbringing

Contrary to common misconception, a child should learn in a relaxed and happy environment instead of ‘military’ learning style where the coursework is rigid and dull.

While discipline is important, it is not the most effective way to bring out the inborn potential of a child. How many times have we seen children rebelling against their parents due to the stress and pressure put to them by their own parents? Is it because they are not 'disciplined enough' or probably parents did not take the effort to understand their child better?

It is important to lay a firm groundwork for a child during pre-school and all the way to secondary education. To guide them to the right path in early stages is crucial because in order to correct them later, it will be more difficult and enormous effort is needed.

BCL believes that every child can excel in life without having to succumb to stress and a mountain-load of homework.

How the brain works

Our mind operates in the realm of two brain hemispheres, the analytical left and the creative right hemisphere. The left hemisphere is described as analytical because it operates in linear and sequential pattern by moving from one point to another in a step-by-step manner. It is most efficient in processing verbal information (language).

The right hemisphere is the creative section where it seeks and constructs patterns and recognises relationship between separate parts. It does not move linearly but processes simultaneously. It is most efficient at visual and spatial processing.

The different stages of brain development

In order to mould a child effectively, perhaps parents need to know the following stages of brain development:
1. Human brain will develop rapidly soon after birth
2. Between the age of 5 to 6 years old, about 70% of the brain is developed
3. Once children reach their teenage years, (10 to 11 years old), almost 90% of their brain is developed
4. Just before they reach adulthood (20 years old), their brain would have reached full development

The key: Balanced Brain Method of Learning

Brain Child Learning is conceptualised based on the balanced way of learning by both brain hemisphere.

A balanced left-right brain learning method is the FOUNDATION to a more effective learning, be it academic, sports or arts.

The balanced brain method of learning (BBML) is the core learning method that stimulates and grooms a child into a high-performer. This is the target to be achieved during our 2 day intensive workshop and weekly classes.

What is BCL all about?

The purpose of BCL is not to teach knowledge (we are not a tuition centre!) but to create a well-balanced child with vast abilities, creativity and to cultivate the habit to use their brain’s potential to achieve:

1. Stronger memory and concentration - (by having a purpose-driven memory)
2. Better brain integration - (by utilizing creative ways to understand, revise and recall)
3. A more articulate thinking pattern (sharper mind) in resolving problems
4. Higher self confidence (effective ways to stimulate mind to perform better and to express themselves)
5. A more composed and relaxed school life - (by managing stress and adopting positive attitude)

About the Brain Child Learning brand

The Brain-Child Learning (BCL) programme is the 21st century mind development method designed to unleash a child’s potential and hidden talent. Our vision is to enrich the lives of children globally and continue to be an innovator of lifelong learning skills.

BCL was introduced to the international market in the year 2003 mainly in Asia. Besides Japan, BCL workshop has made its presence in Singapore, Malaysia and United Kingdom conducted in ‘summer school’ or ‘holiday camp’ method. Many children have benefited from this extraordinary programme and excelled in various disciplines such as academic, sports, arts and general self-improvement.

The syllabus of BCL is designed on the fundamentals of mental stimulation, motivation and creative thinking. In order to achieve optimum result, BCL is best conducted in intensive workshop method instead of structured coursework which may take months to complete.

BCL has also formed strategic alliance with myDNA, a specialised firm in dermatoglyphics (fingerprint) technology in decoding human’s innate temperament (a person born of behaviour), including innate learning styles and advantages and disadvantages of the person’s brain. This alliance will allow BCL to identify the in-born talent of a child (through myDNA’s technology) effectively and subsequently, to unleash the child’s inborn talent (through BCL’s technology).

BCL will continue to foster relationship with scientific bodies which are recognised internationally. The practice of endless searching for better technology has been embedded in its corporate culture since its inception and this will position BCL as an innovator in mind development in this region.
